  • The Protection Officer is responsible for the direct implementation of Civilian Self Protection (CSP) activities, including leading in conflict and risk assessments, workshop and capacity building of community groups and awareness raising, development and implementation of strategies developed together with communities. The role involves working closely with at risk individuals and communities to identify protection risks, provide tailored support, and strengthen community-based protection mechanisms. The Protection Officer plays a key role in ensuring the safety and dignity of affected populations and upholding protection standards.

Program Overview

  • NRC started working in Bangladesh in 2018 providing Education, Shelter and WASH, ICLA, Emergency, and Protection for Rohingya refugees crossing over from Myanmar. NRC is currently rolling out its Protection from Violence Core Competency covering camps 13 and 19 in Ukhiya focusing on Specialized Services including Individual Protection Assistance & Comprehensive Protection Case management, Thought Leadership and Community Safety and Violence Prevention. NRC’s approach is to work through provision of direct support, through community groups and local and National partners.

Key Tasks and Assignments:

  • Facilitate community self-protection activities, working with local leaders, community groups, and volunteers to strengthen community resilience and reduce protection risks.

  • Support the development, maintenance and roll out of case management processes (Service mapping, protocols, referral pathway, SoPs, databases).

  • Carry out Individual Protection Assistance identification, assessment, intake and support of cases.

  • Conduct safety mapping and participatory risk assessments to identify protection threats and support communities in developing self-protection strategies.

  • Conduct regular field visits to monitor the protection situation, identify trends, and report protection incidents.

  • Maintain effective working relationships with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and representatives and service providers.

  • Utilize standardized data collection tools and methodologies to gather information on protection risks and concerns from affected communities.

  • Support in maintaining incidents and other database as necessary.

  • Assist in identification of changes and/or trends related to the protection environment in his/her area of intervention.

  • Contribute to needs assessments, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews to inform program design and response planning.

  • Promote the collection of baseline data and indicators.

  • Ensure Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) approach to protection is consistently applied through community and right base participatory methods.

  • Produce monthly reports and support the Protection from Violence Coordinator/Program Development Manager in submitting internal reports as per schedule.

  • Assess, promote, and document ideas for technical improvement and further programme development options and to ensure Safe and Inclusive Programming.

  • Oversee and ensure achievements of targets of activities according to NRC and donors’ requirements through management of the Protection from Violence activities under his/her supervision.
